West Texas’s reputation as the land of crunchy tacos, kitchen-sink burritos, and bulky combo platters is well-earned. These are the high-calorie foods of the hardworking folks of the oil patch. The region’s sister cities, Midland and Odessa, offer them aplenty. However, Midland surprises with a vibrant taco truck scene, with many of the trucks parked on and around Big Spring Street.

El Taco Tako
This cash-only, counter-order joint is worn around the edges, with faded, hand-painted signage. The tortillas are fresh, though, and they’re best in the form of burritos packed with guisos, such as chile relleno, green chile pork, and barbacoa, as well as with all manner of breakfast options. 718 W. Elva’s Taco Casa
Another aged joint—this one established by owner Elva Porras nearly forty years ago—is also decorated with hand-painted signage. The cursive “Elva’s” is a touch of flourish for an otherwise no-fuss place. The menu is small, consisting of little more than tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Greenville, South Carolina, is celebrating in a big way with the launch of the Greenville Taco Trail. It’s a great way for visitors and locals to sample some of the best tacos the city has to offer. In case you didn’t know, Greenville is home to a diverse restaurant scene that goes beyond Southern comfort fare and champions local ingredients.

The Greenville Taco Trail Passport provides the list of stops and has spaces to write in the special code word from each participating restaurant. You can print a passport at home or pick one up at the Visitor Center at City Hall or one of the restaurants on the trail. If you collect enough code words and bring your taco trail passport to the Greenville Visitor Center, you can redeem prizes like a taco trail sticker, tumbler and a baseball cap. Anyone that visits all 12 taco trail stops and submits their passport by April 15, 2023 will be entered into a sweepstakes for 2 VIP tickets to Greenville’s 2023 Tacos n’ Tequila Fiesta.
