The Talpa restaurant has been a neighborhood favorite since 1962, the home of REAL Mexican food for nearly sixty years.
Since opening our doors, The Talpa has also always been owned and operated by real Mexican Families. The rather infamous Lupe opened and ran The Talpa for many years. It was his family that created the extensive authentic menu of home made recipes and introduced the beautiful hand painted wall murals, both of which remain essentially unchanged to this day. The foursome of Nelly, Bella, Guille and Andy took over after Lupe retired, and now the Rios family proudly carries on the Talpa tradition.
Serving homemade, delicious food every day in a welcoming environment is our top priority . This is one of the reasons why many of The Talpa’s customers have been coming back regularly for decades. But there is another reason, and that is our friendly and personable service. Come in any day and you will always find at least one of our family members cooking in the kitchen, serving drinks at the bar, welcoming customers and/or serving your favorite food. We are also lucky enough to have on board three legendary servers, Celina, Pola and Lily, who have each been serving our happy customers for more than 35 years.
The Talpa was named after Talpa de Allende – a small silver-mining village in Jalisco, Mexico – founded by the Spanish in 1599. There are 4 pilgrimages a year to see the Virgin “Rosario of Talpa”, a small statue that is said to have healing powers.
